How to Use a Color Palette Book for Your Coloring Projects

If you’ve ever struggled to come up with fresh color combinations for your coloring projects, a color palette book might be your new favorite tool! In my latest project, I used a palette from a book I found on Amazon, and it completely transformed how I approach choosing colors. Let me show you how it works and how you can use it for your own creations.

What’s Inside a Color Palette Book

The book I use is packed with gorgeous color palettes, many inspired by nature and colorful scenes. At the front, there’s a handy guide on how to use the book and an index of colors. This index is especially helpful—if you know you want to use a specific shade, you can find the palettes that include it.

It’s a fantastic way to experiment with new color schemes you might not have thought of yourself. Since the palettes are curated, you can be confident that the colors will work beautifully together.

Tips for Using a Color Palette Book

  • Match Colors to Your Markers
Start by checking your marker swatches to find the closest matches to the colors in the palette. For example, I compared shades like B090 and G500 from my marker set to the suggested colors in the book.
  • Test the Colors
Once you’ve picked potential matches, test them out next to each other. Remember, marker colors can look slightly different when they dry, so give them a few minutes to settle before making your final decision.
  • Work Your Way Through the Palette
Go down the list of colors in the palette, testing and tweaking until you’re happy with the combination. This method ensures your finished piece will look cohesive and balanced.
