Coloring large busy areas without streaks

Coloring large areas can feel overwhelming, especially when there are lots of smaller sections and edges to navigate. But with the ‘Chasing the Ink’ technique, you can achieve a smooth, streak-free finish, no matter how complicated the design. Here’s a step-by-step guide based on a tricky wall illustration we tackled in the video!

• Look for Sections
  Before you start coloring, identify the key sections of your design. For example, in the wall illustration, there were areas around makeup brushes, sections inside a ring light, and small spaces between objects. Save the smaller details for later and focus on the largest sections first.
• Start at an Edge
  Always begin at an edge, not in the middle of a section. Starting at the edge gives you more control and prevents patchy or uneven coverage. For the wall, we started at the top of the makeup brushes.
• Chase the Ink
  This technique involves keeping the ink wet by "chasing" it across the page. Work evenly by giving equal attention to all the edges you create as you go. Instead of completing one big chunk at a time, alternate between sections to avoid leaving any edge unattended for too long.
• Fill Smaller Sections Last
  Once the large area is complete, go back to the smaller sections you identified at the start. Fill them in carefully to finish the piece.
