Blending a Sunset Sky with Ohuhu Markers: Swatching Tutorial

@cozy_colour Testing my Ohuhu Markers before starting a new coloring page - this is something I usually skip over and hope for the best, but I'm so glad I did this because I made SO MANY mistakes! Do you test your color combos first? #colortok #colorwithme #cozycoloring #ohuhumarkers #coloring #coloringpage #coloringtutorial ♬ Soft Sunlight (Lofi) - Prodbyecho

Ever get nervous about starting a brand new coloring page or book? Same. 😅 I recently began a sky-themed coloring page and wanted to base it on a dreamy sunset photo I loved. Before jumping in, I tested all my Ohuhu marker color combos in a separate little practice book -and it made such a difference!

If you're looking to blend soft tones like yellow, peach, pink, and purple into a smooth, glowing sky, here’s exactly how I broke it down.

Step 1: Testing the Color Combos

I started by dividing the sky into three sections:

  • Yellow and peachy tones

  • Pinks and red shades

  • Purple hues for the top of the sky

To help the light colors blend, I first used a colorless blender as a base in the lighter sections. This made a noticeable difference with yellows and peaches, but during testing I realised it didn't work as well with the darker purples - so I skipped the blender for that area.

Mistakes? Oh yes, I made a few (okay, a lot). But that’s what swatch books are for - practising and playing without the pressure.

Step 2: Final Color Choices

Here’s the final blend plan for my window:

  • Bottom panel (sunset base): Yellow to peach gradient using the colorless blender as a base

  • Middle panel: Pinks to reds (blended without the blender)

  • Top panel (nightfall purples): Two coordinating purples blended together directly

After swatching and adjusting, I found combos that felt smooth, soft, and sunset-y - just what I was hoping for!

Why Swatching First Helps So Much

Starting a new page can be stressful, but testing your colors ahead of time takes off so much pressure.

You’ll feel more confident diving into the final piece and avoid surprises when blending.
